Whistler’s little secret. If you like to unplug.
Camping Trip #1 – 2016
After one of many frequent trips up and down the Sea to Sky, we decided to set up camp for the night at Cal-Cheak Campground. A sweet spot indeed, this site offers riverside camping at one of three camps around the Callaghan and Cheakamus Rivers. Callaghan Camp, North Camp and South Camp are scattered along the shaded shores of the rivers that pour from Whistler Blackcomb and the surrounding mountains of the Fitzsimmons/Garibaldi Range.
It feels really remote. With no hook-ups, power or sewage, the Cal-Cheak Campground feels like true camping… and in the hot summer we’ll likely be bathing in the river’s glacial run-off to keep clean and cool (though in April we were snuggled together under the stars to keep warm!)
The campground offers bear caches for those on foot hiking the Sea to Sky Trail (on my bucket list!) and is also home to a small and sweet suspension bridge which crosses the Callaghan Creek at the South Camp near the meeting point of the Cheakamus River.
First come, first serve.
